The Philadelphia Eagles announced on Monday that they have agreed to a five-year extension for quarterback star Jalen Hurts.

The contract keeps Hurts with the Eagles until 2028, and according to reports, it is worth $255 million, making him the highest paid player in NFL history.

The deal also includes a no-trade clause which is reportedly the first in Eagles history. This means that the team will be unable to trade him without presenting written permission form both the player and his agent.

The agreement was brokered by Nicole Lynn, who is affiliated with Klutch Sports Group, the agency that manages Star NBA player LeBron James. Earlier this year, Lynn accomplished a milestone by becoming the first Black woman agent to represent an NFL quarterback in the Super Bowl.

After being selected by the Eagles as the 53rd overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft, Hurts steered Philadelphia to the 2023 Super Bowl but fell short against the Kansas City Chiefs in February, held in Arizona. In the 2023 season, he secured the second spot in the NFL Most Valuable Player ranking, trailing behind the Chiefs’ play-caller, Patrick Mahomes.

Prior to his NFL career, Hurts spent three years attending the University of Alabama, where he led the Crimson Tide to back-to-back College Football National Championship games in 2017 and 2018. He later transferred to the University of Oklahoma for his final year of college.
